Fresh Face: Coco Young

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Coco Young has already made her mark in the art world and is now making a very successful attempt at conquering the modeling industry. Her first big break was working for Ryan McGinley on several personal and professional fashion projects in 2008. Only a year later she starred on KT Auleta’s short film Run Around, sat for painter John Currin, and was shot by both Dana Lauren Goldstein and Richard Kern. Her portrait for John Currin was later featured at the Metropolitan Opera Gallery. She clearly has had a very successful past few years.

The crazy part is Young accomplished this all on her own. She had no major agency, no agent, nothing. Even without an agency she managed to walk in the Marc Jacob’s fall 2010 show. She caught this big break because of Michelle Lee, superstar casting director at KCD, who was casting for the show. Lee called her down to the casting and from there it was as easy as one, two, three. She tried on one outfit, walked upstairs to meet Marc, walked several times in front of him, and the next thing she knew she was walking in the show. Now Young is signed with one of the top modeling agencies in the world, Wilhelmina. If you thought she was someone to keep your eye on before, there is no stopping her now with Wilhelmina behind her.

Top Model Winner Krista White on Cover of Seventeen

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Just over a month after being announced as the newest winner of the CW‘s hit reality show, America’s Next Top Model, Krista White’s issue of Seventeen magazine has finally hit the newsstands! Appearing on the June/July issue of the magazine, Krista looks young and fresh in a brightly colored ensemble that is a perfect example of just how to look cute this summer. Since the 25-year-old beat out twelve other girls for the ANTM title, Krista’s career has been taking off and she has many more opportunities lining up in front of her. With her win, Krista obtained a contract with Wilhelmina Models, a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, and the cover and a six-page spread featured in Seventeen magazine. Beyond that, Krista is also featured in a “Back to School” campaign for the very store she used to be employed with as a retail manager; Max Rave (owned my Max Azria).

While some may believe that Krista may be too old to enter the youth-obsessed fashion world, she understands that her age can be an obstacle but doesn’t plan on letting that deter her from pursuing her career past the show. She auditioned for the show twelve times in several different states before being selected, and isn’t ready for her career to peak just yet.

That kind of perseverance will definitely be an asset to this new Top Model! Look for her upcoming CoverGirl ads which will be featured in WalMarts all around the country, and her Seventeen magazine cover, out now!

Inspired Creation Contest- featuring Wilhelmina Denver model, Bonnie Pierce

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Wilhelmina Denver model Bonnie Pierce was recently featured in a fun wedding blog that teamed up with several Denver wedding and special event vendors to create a fun and personal wedding theme. The group, which included A Touch of Bliss, Bella Fiori, Makeup by Janine, and Revert Photo, came up with a look that centered around objects that had been found around the couple’s own home, and also took inspiration from things that they love to do together.

Starting with a collection of crisp, white Jonathan Adler vases, the team then created a cheery color wheel and combined brightly colored fabrics to contrast against the sleek vases.

Drawing inspiration from a notable collection of coffee mugs, the team took the couple’s love of  cozily drinking coffee together, and translated it into an easy DIY project that resulted in the fanciful, coffee stained escort cards.

The theme didn’t stop at the decor; it also seeped into the bride’s apparel. She wore a unique, white linen dress with an asymmetrical ruffle to bring texture to her look, and accessorized with a capiz shell necklace that reflected the couple’s love of the outdoors.

Looking around your own home for ideas to jump start your wedding planning is not only budget-friendly, but is one of the best places to find inspiration that will be true to your own style, ensuring that you have a very personal stamp on your big day. Even if your home isn’t decorated exactly the way you want, it still most likely reflects a style or feeling that suits you. From something as small as vases, mugs, or pastimes, everyone can find something that will allow them to finally pin down the look that they want to center their wedding around, giving their day a fresh and distinctive touch.

“Model on Model” Shoot Leads to 2 Wilhelmina Contracts

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Wilhelmina models recommended plus models, Becca Thorpe

and Philippa Allam

to be the photographer and stylist of a shoot with international plus models Jenny Dettner

and Erika Demmer.

Becca has modeled for Lands End, Macy’s, Lane Bryant, and the Avenue, which allowed her to get a photographer’s eye for what makes or breaks a photo. Philippa has modeled for H&M, Levi’s, Liz Claiborne, and Glamour magazine and is recognized for her great sense of style. Philippa uses her passion for fashion to put together great looks that are guaranteed to turn heads. The two professional models working behind the scenes were a deadly duo creating a very successful shoot inspired by New York City called City Street Blues.

City Street Blues was a shoot based on Jenny and Erika’s unifying American dream of becoming a plus model in the big city. It took place in a gritty yet glamorous setting in the lower east side. The models were shot wearing denim, which represented an iconic American fashion staple. This “Model on Model” shoot turned out to be a dream come true for Erika and Jenny landing them contracts with Wilhelmina’s W Curve division.

Wilhelmina Male Models Keeping Busy This Season

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Wilhelmina is arguably one of the strongest agencies in all the land when it comes to male modeling. While there may be a smaller board of signed models than other agencies, it is based on the philosophy of getting the maximum return on your investment, and only signing models they believe can really do some damage (in a good way!) in the fashion world. Wilhelmina is responsible for creating modeling icons like Gabriel Aubry and Mark Vanderloo. It’s no surprise then, that Wilhelmina Men models Taylor Fuchs, Andres Velencoso Segura, and Bruno Santos are currently out and about gracing the pages of editorials and international campaigns this spring and summer.

Taylor Fuchs appears in the latest Black Book Magazine in a ‘Lord of the Flies’-themed editorial, photographed by Blair Getz Mezibov. Styled in Burberry, Bottega Vanetta, Yigal Azrouel, and Trussardi, Taylor can definitely pull off the ‘Castaway’ look!

If you want to see the face of Andres Velencoso Segura, you don’t have to look far! Lately, he has been everywhere from the cover of the May issue of Vanity Fair Espana, an editorial in the same magazine, and is the new face for Chanel Allure Homme Sport, publishing this spring and summer. Although part of the fashion world since 2001, this seasoned veteran shows no signs of slowing down!

Bruno Santos, the Brazilian model that has been selected for elite fashion houses such as Versace and Armani, has been one of the faces of Guess since last fall and winter season. He was then selected to represent them again through the spring and summer collections, which is where the following come from.

All I can say is keep ‘em coming boys!

Wilhelmina Plus-Size Model: Julie Henderson

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

“People believe that plus-size means out of shape or bigger. I’m 6’1” 190-pound plus-size woman who is in shape. Because I’m in shape, I can’t be plus-size? There are many meanings to plus size, but people like to put the plus-size term under one umbrella. There can be many versions of beauty and there can be many versions of plus.” This is what Julie Henderson has to say about her experience as a plus size model. Julie Henderson is signed with Wilhelmina NY and Model Management UK in London as a plus size model. She has worked with many top name companies such as L’Oreal, La Redoute Paris, Target, H&M, Avenue, Evans UK, and Macy’s.

There is much more to her then just a beautiful face, she is very intelligent and prides her self in her athleticism. She has earned a degree in Marketing and been a basketball star at Notre Dame. Growing up being beautiful was not something that even crossed Henderson’s mind because as a basketball player you were more likely to get hurt on the court. She always took care of her body but unlike many girls her age, her goal was not to be thin, it was to be big and strong so she could push people around on the court. She strives to change the views people have about beautiful women not being intelligent. Her upbringing taught her that the more you have going on inside, the more your outside will reflect that.

Her advice for women who are struggling with self-esteem, confidence, and body image issues is to not stress them! She advises women to first find a spiritual path such as yoga practice, church, temple, meditation, or Abraham-Hicks. Her spiritual connection has helped her to get to know herself on a deeper level. Being connected spiritually has helped her gain self-confidence.

Her latest project that she is amped up about is Curves for Change. Henderson and Kate Dillon, along with the ladies on the Wilhelmina WCurve Board, are teaming up for a great cause. Hardy Girls Healthy Women & The Komera Project are the two charities Curves For Change is sponsoring this year. The Web site has not yet been finished but Sage Salzer is working hard to finish it right now!
